I don't know about you, but in 1986 I found myself. I'll
repeat what I just wrote, I found myself.
Twenty years ago I attended my first diversity training
program. As a financial analyst for Mobil Oil Company, the
leadership enrolled me in a two week diversity training
program.
At the time I didn't know what it would lead to but now I
know. Today I conduct diversity-train-the-trainer and
diversity training programs and workshops throughout
the United States.
The reason it's so fascinating is because people amaze
me during the training session. For example, at a recent
training session at a college, before the program began
attendees were a bit apprehensive.
After the warmm-up excercise everyone delved in and began
discovering their cutlutal software. In other words, the
more they learned about themselves, the more they wanted to
learn about others. Tolerance begins on the inside, thus
diversity is an inside job.
I encourage each of you to learn as much as you can about
diversity because we live in the most diverse country in
the world and the workplace is rapidly changing. Inclusion
improves your bottom line, thus it's encumbent upon each of
us to learn all we can about diversity because it
represents America at her finest.
